Tracking it back . . .

I’m still feeling sluggish, slightly nauseous, bloated, and generally yucky.  I’ve felt like this ever since the trip to the VA hospital last Monday morning.  At first I wanted to just say it was due to lack of sleep – trying to keep going for 18 to 20 hours in a row can do that to you.  But it hasn’t abated, and yesterday I tried to sleep from 7am to after 10pm – without success for the most part.  The only reason I got out of bed was because my wife needed to go to bed.  It’s a long story.

So, I decided to make a very poor attempt at trying to reconstruct the past week in the attempt to figure out what may have caused this.  Sure, lack of sleep contributed, but if that was the only factor then I’d have slept like a lamb yesterday.

I think it started with a bad decision.  We ate breakfast at a “Denny’s” on the way to Fayetteville on Monday morning, and I had a breakfast platter that included “banana-bread pancakes”.  Yes, pancakes made with banana bread batter.  I think I should have asked for an extra helping of hash browns.  At the time, I figured that I’d been doing so well with my diet that I could handle a small, one-time, lapse.

Let me just honestly say that if it had been a one-time lapse, I wouldn’t be writing this blog.  Since then, I have snacked on anything I could get my hands on, including JIFF peanut butter.  Not exactly healthy, or on the PALEO diet.  Well, I suppose it would be allowed on the PALEO diet, if I wasn’t trying to lose weight – but the fact that snacking on it has continued the cycle of feeling so badly tells me that MY PERSONAL diet should not include that mixture.

Anyhow, I’m thinking I need to do another 10-day Detox, with a heavy kick-start of Mediterranean Salad w/ grilled chicken.  In fact, the salad might be enough to take care of the problem.  Call Roto-Rooter when you have a slow drain, right?

  1. You will probably be fine if you go right back on your paleo diet. I hope you learned your lesson. AND peanut butter is NOT paleo. Legumes are NOT paleo. Almond butter and sunflower seed butter are ok. Do not cheat, Vernon, it’s not worth it. There are so many things you can have, even on the Denny’s menu. AND you are right about the Med salad. Let nature clean you out, and NO MORE CHEATING. I never cheat. I consider the “cheats” poison and addictive. Now you know. I don’t mean to nag…. jus sayin…..

    • Yes, I see that. It’s also why my daughter continues to make the same mistakes and can’t break the cycle, but looking from the outside the answer is obvious to me. It seems we’re all like my daughter in our own ways.

Which is why we never have the right to impose our own ideas on others. If they don’t learn the lesson for themselves, it has no value and won’t take root.
