Weight Loss Update…

As regular readers know, I’ve been actively trying to arrest the slow, steady increase in my weight for over 5 years.  Many things I tried worked for small, short-term weight loss.  Ultimately, I would hit a plateau and start putting the weight back on.  At the beginning of this year I was desperate for change.  A little over 32 years ago, I left the US Army weighing a more-or-less fit 155 pounds.  In January, 2015, I weighed 248 – on the scales at a VA hospital.

That was when I tried the Paleo Diet for the first time.  Since then I have written a few updates tracking what progress I had to report – and admitting my own failure (when I made a trip to another VA Hospital and ate pancakes during the trip).

So, today I have another update.  It is quite a benchmark.

I am now down to 206.8 pounds (on my home scale).  I have (more or less) officially lost over 40 pounds doing the Paleo Diet, and the weight continues to drop.  Very slowly, but it is going, and best of all – no requirement for doing exercises that my disability won’t tolerate.

  1. Good job!! I am very impressed. And embarrassed by the pancakes I had this morning. Ah well. I eat avocados and tuna more than anything.

    • I wouldn’t worry too much about the pancakes if I were you. As long as you don’t have any adverse reactions to eating wheat & gluten, I wouldn’t say it’s an issue for you. The only thing I’m dealing with is that I found it impossible to lose weight and keep it off while still eating any kind of grain. But, that is me, not you.

      • Well, CrazyLibLady, it’s nice to know that a good woman is standing behind her man. After all, we all know it’s because of us wives that they do so well…at least that’ what I keep telling MY husband! LOLOLOL! OK, I’m gonna get a lot of flack for that comment but I couldn’t resist. 🙂 I Know how hard weight loss can be because my mother was morbidly obese. So, any weight loss success get respect from me! Have a great day and pray he keeps up the good work… 😀

      • @Lorra – you won’t get any flack from me over your comment. I’m fully aware that her support, research, and concern have been instrumental in finally succeeding at this. It has taken us nearly 10 years to find something that works for me – and she’s been with me every step of the way. I think that, at some time or other, I’ve probably tried everything. Well, except for the “quick fix” fads that promise to help you drop 10 pounds in a week, without ever caring what happens after the weekend is over. I wrote those off out-of-hand, just on principle. I knew I was looking for a way to consistently and steadily drop weight, and that I needed to drop a lot more than 10 pounds.
